You have vowed to love each other in sickness or in health, for richer or for poorer, till death do you part. But what about your in-laws?
Nice question. At this time when modern America is slowly veering away from family dominion and couples are living on their own, it is a wonder how in-laws can still get to your nerves and to your marriage.
While husband and wife has promised to support and love each other, the vow does not include abiding by and supporting in-laws who seem to go out of their way to ruin the marriage. In-laws and issues involving them can get on your nerves so much so that it is better to get divorce than to remain married and have to face them your entire life.
These problems can be very sticky ones and you have to discuss this with your fiancé even before you plan your wedding. Anyone who meddles can start doing this from the moment you accept his proposal so better iron out this issue before they become a major one.
It is important to get to know your guy’s parents (the same thing with your girl’s parents). This wouldn’t be a problem if you have a long engagement or have been a couple for years. However, if you have fallen in love in a matter of months and decide to tie the knot immediately then meeting the parents before the wedding is a must.
However, meeting the parents once or twice is not a guarantee of a lifetime of peace and quiet. You may hit it off from the start but you never know if they have hidden maladies that you are not especially fond of like intruding in your wedding and thinking that they can rule your married life.
